Coatesville VA Hospital Delivery

Several times this summer, Post members and social members have volunteered their time and vehicles to travel to Coatesville to deliver clothes and luggage to Coatesville VA Hospital. This is an ongoing program for Post 1463. If you donate items, thank you; if you donate your time and vehicle, thank you for that. Ask Commander Ellis for details on how to join us in this program.

On Wednesday, April 21, 2010, members of the VFW Post 1463 delivered needed items to the VA Hospital in Coatesville. Commander Joel Ellis, District 9 Sr. Vice President Richard Getz, Ron Lantz, Ed Orrison, Ron Zunich loaded clothing, suitcases, hats, shoes, coats, and lap robes for delivery.

The Ladies Auxiliary has a program in which members and area volunteers knit and crochet lap robes for the veterans at the hospital. The other donated items go to the "store" at the VA Hospital, and those items are then available to the patients. Suitcases are especially important when a veteran leaves the VA Hospital and they need to pack their belongings .

Many local nursing homes, churches, and Post families contribute items to this Veterans Military Assistance Program (MAP). The Post members travel to the Coatesville VA Hospital for this purpose approximately once a month. The hospital appreciates these donations, and in fact, the stores' inventory was depleted at the time of this last delivery, and in need of a merchandise replenishment.

VFW Post 1463 will continue to support veterans in this program along with the other MAP programs.
