Statue of Liberty Trip

On October 28, 2010, members of the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary attended the 124th Anniversary of the Inauguration of the State of Liberty Monument, sponsored annually by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Our bus departed York at 6 a.m. We arrived in New Jersey’s Liberty State Park in time to go through airport-like security and onto the ferry to Ellis Island. After our brief visit there, we ferried over to Liberty Island to view the beautiful Statue of Liberty, and attend the program planned for early afternoon.

This program was a national event with thirty-one states represented. The Palisades Park Fire Department Band provided music for the afternoon. Our national president, Cortina Barnes, was escorted by her mother, followed by department presidents; district presidents and line officers completed the presentation of colors after which the anniversary ceremony was held. National President Barnes presented a check from the Ladies Auxiliary to David Luschsinger, superintendent Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island National Park service.
