The Holidays at Post 1463

On Thanksgiving Day, members of the Post and Ladies Auxiliary delivered Thanksgiving dinner to shut-ins in the Lititz area. The annual dinner was provided by the United Methodist Church in Lititz.

The ladies of the auxiliary gathered in November to write holiday cards for the troops and our veterans in local nursing homes. They also made a small gift to include with the comfort kits the post would present to our nursing home vets. The ladies also enjoyed a potluck dinner.

Boy Scouts from Pack 100 in Lititz signed stacks of Christmas cards for the troops and veterans in local nursing homes and delivered the cards to Commander Joel Ellis and District 9 Commander Richard Getz.

The children’s Christmas party was held Sunday, December 12. As usual, the children were entertained by our friendly elf, Mike Gallion, and Mr. and Mrs. Claus. They all enjoyed the party and their gifts.

On December 14, Post and Ladies Auxiliary members visited five area nursing homes to see our veterans and deliver small holiday cards and gifts. We spent time with each veteran and expressed our appreciation for their service. This is an enjoyable and heartwarming evening, so keep it in mind for next year. We would love to have more ladies and gentlemen join us for these visits.

By December 15, the Care Packages for the Troops project was in full swing. Citizens, organizations and companies from the community donated generously. All donated items were gathered at the American Legion, set up and sorted. Boys scouts, kids in after-school programs, community volunteers of all ages, and VFW and American legions members gathered to pack the boxes. These packages were then shipped to our service men and women in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa. It was a huge undertaking, but with a lot of hard work by a lot of people, it went well. We have plans to do this again in July, so think about joining us next time to help collect and pack.
