Camporee in the Park

"We are here today to honor the symbol of our country and retire a flag which has served its useful life as a symbol of freedom and our country. "

The sixth annual Boy Scouts Camporee in the Park was held April 9 – 11, 2011, at AMBUCS field. More than 120 scouts and adult leaders participated in the weekend-long event. The Lititz/Warwick area scouts have been cleaning Lititz Spring for the last six years, and this is the sixth year for their Camporee as well.

As steadfast supporters of the Boy Scouts of America, members of the VFW were invited to the Camporee. Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463 Commander Joel Ellis and District 9 Commander Dick Getz attended the event. Area resident, Sergeant Brandon Pornichuck spoke to the scouts of the similarities of scouting and military service to your country. Sgt. Pornichuck, Commander Ellis and District 9 Commander Getz participated in the flag retirement ceremony. The scouts were well-prepared for the flag burning as they paid close attention to their duties and understood the patriotic nature of this ceremony.
