Activity Committee

The Activity Committee hopes that you and yours had a wonderful holiday season! We would also like to thank you for your support with all of our endeavors last year and hope that you will continue to support all our efforts to help our veterans and our community.

We will try to come up with new and exciting ways to do this but in the meantime please come out for Bingo on Thursday nights. By the way, if you were bringing in guests for our Bingo nights they will have to become a member this year if they want to continue to play. If they were a guest last year, they can not be a guest this year, they must sign up as a member. Sign up begins January 1st.

The Ham Raffle is late this year – it will be held Saturday, March 31st.

Stay tuned for our Mystery Bus Trip in May.

Our meetings are held right here at the post in the dining room every second Tuesday night of the month at 6 p.m. If you want to join us or if you have an idea you would like to present to us, please come, all are welcome.

Activity Committee Secretary,
Kathy Wiker

What Is The Activity Committee?

Many new members ask what is and who can belong to the Activity Committee of VFW Post 1463?

This article will attempt to enlighten all our members what the Activity Committee is and what we do and how we get the job done.

Our committee was organized sometime in the early nineties as a way for patron members to participate in helping the post fulfill its mission of service to the post, veterans and community.

Presently the 18 members of the activity committee consist of active, auxiliary and patron members. Elections are held every September and the officers are selected by the members of the Activity Committee. Over the years our group has grown and our service to the post has grown with it. We have purchased all the televisions including the high definition unit that is used for major sports events. We organize and run the Super Bowl Party and the annual post picnic at Elstonville. Our fundraisers include the ham raffle, turkey raffle and meat trays. Thursday night bingo is an exclusive fundraiser of the Activity Committee. We use 100% of the profit as donations to numerous charity organizations. As of now we have donated over $50,000 to over 40 different organizations.

The Activity Committee is also a fun organization. We are known to organize some pretty wild road trips. This is when we visit other veteran’s organizations in our area. This usually begins with the intention of making some purchase for the club. After that mission is complete then it is "party time". Our group is very informal and friendly. This is a super opportunity for new and long time members to acquaint yourself with fellow post members. All members active, auxiliary and patron are cordially invited to join us at one of our monthly meetings to learn about us and the fun we have working together. Hope to see you at one of our monthly meetings which take place the second Tuesday of each month at 6 PM in the back room of our post home.
